Originated as a martial art in China about 2000 years ago, Tai Chi is now a well-loved exercise practiced all over the world. Tai Chi is a low-impact exercise – a series of methodical movements practiced in a relaxed manner coupled with deep breathing.
Tai Chi is often called “Moving Meditation” because it forces the practitioner to be ‘in the present moment’ during practice. If the person daydreams, he/she won’t be able to remember the routine correctly. Focus is crucial during Tai Chi practice. With regular practice, this heightened awareness is brought into daily life, resulting in mental alertness and a relaxed state of being.
Moving slowly gives us the opportunity to focus on relaxation during every movement. When the physical body is relaxed, the circulation of oxygen and blood is more efficient allowing every part of the body to be nourished.
It is scientifically proven that regular Tai Chi practice regulates the nervous system. It is a great stress reliever because it allows us to harmonise our breath and movements with the actual rhythm of our body. Instead of demanding our body to move at a high speed, we honour ourselves by releasing that unnecessary burden on our system.
The rewards of Tai Chi practice are endless. Give your body a treat and start your Tai Chi practice today!
